Promontory Chapter of the NRHS
Working to increase public appreciation for Utah railroad history.
Who we are
The Promontory Chapter of the NRHS was established in 1966. At present the chapter owns a former Union Pacific passenger car is used for meetings during the Summer months. It is located on a siding which is located approximately at 1202 West North Temple, in Salt Lake City, UT. This asset also houses the chapter’s library with hundreds of books and VHS tapes for the membership to enjoy.
The Chapter continues to assist other Railroad groups and museums with the restoration and preservation of railroad rolling stock. Our most recent restoration is a GP35 which is restored to Western Pacific paint scheme. It was send to Ogden Cities, Union Station. Another project is a GP30 that will be painted in Denver Rio Grande paint scheme. It is in the process of being worked on. The other locomotive’s new home will be announced in the future.
